The Promise of the Holy Spirit

The promise of the Holy Spirit that was written of by the Prophet Joel and verified by Peter on the day of Pentecost. Let me gather the facts concerning the promise, for what Peter quoted was only a small part of the prophecy.

Beginning in the book of Joel chapter two verse 27: And you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

I have underlined the two words that have been added by the translators. This is the same word that God used to describe himself when he spoke to Moses from the burning bush. It should really be written as; “ I and I, Yahweh, Elohim of you” speaks of two Gods then says that I am the plural God of you. This is the same name that is used by Jesus but never translated as: “I am of the one.” (Read the lesson on the name of Jesus from the Greek). Jesus is clearly included by the one speaking.

The Prophet Joel is quoting the very thing that God said to Moses when he was on Mount Sinai of Arabia, “You are my people and I will be your God.” It clearly states who, God is talking to through the Prophet Joel. All other people are excluded. as they were on the mountaintop and again here. There are no representatives of the gentiles in either case.

Verse 28: And it shall come to pass afterward, I will pour out my spirit upon all of your flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions: Note that I have added, “of your” to be in keeping with the verse before it, that it was to all people of God. Here once again, God is identifying who his people are, is making the selection and again the gentiles are rejected and sent away as being unwanted. This promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was to the Hebrews only, as being the one thing that can identify them, as to who they are as a people, who are unique among the worlds of people.

This promise had a time schedule that it would be poured out afterwards. We now know that it was to be poured out after the 50 days following Passover. The Passover in which Jesus was slaughtered as the Lamb from the foundation of the earth. He was slaughtered that he could buy back the wife who had been divorced and was owned by another. He died and rose again and is alive forever more. The wife that was divorced from him was the House of Israel, one of the two families of the Hebrews. The Hebrews from their beginning, have always been the people of God and their are, no other people included.

During the time that Jesus is in the land of Palestine the context of the people that surround him are the people of the House of Judah from around the area of the Sea of Galilee. These people are of the tribe of Benjamin, who are Israelites. Those learners that he selected to follow him and later are the same ones who are going to write in the Greek language about him in the context of being in the Judean family and the message that he taught them was that he came only for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. When they used the word in the English, “world” it was the world of the Hebrews starting first with the Judeans and included the house of Israel as being the only ones to whom they were writing to or about throughout all of the Greek section of the bible. It is the same message of the Old Testament that it was focused on the people of God and what was promised to them. In the New Testament, it is the fulfillment of many of the promises made in the Old Testament. The promise that I am writing about is the outpourings of the Holy Spirit on his people, both the Judeans and the lost sheep of the House of Israel.

Now moving to the time when the Spirit was poured out on his people in the book of Acts. First of all they were all Galileans as is mentioned in the first chapter, verse 8; When he said the last thing to them before he ascended to the Father, “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you:..” Then one of the two men spoke to the followers, who were with him on the mountain, “You men of Galilee, why stand you gazing up into the heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven.”

I have changed the words to red to emphases, who I am writing about to establish that there were no gentiles on the mountaintop again.

Now to enter into chapter two and examine those things that we know about the day of Pentecost. First and foremost is was to be celebrated in the home and that it was on the evening before the actual day of Pentecost. The meal was to be eaten and all things cleaned up before the sunrise of the full day of Pentecost, Since it was to be held in the home, a very private meal, there is virtually no chance that gentiles would have been present during the celebration among the Judeans of Galilee, for they considered all gentiles to be dogs. And to them it would have polluted the house where in they entered. So in the upper room were only the followers of Jesus who would have been only those from the house of Judah known as Galileans.

Verse 2: and suddenly, there came the sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. The writer goes on to describe that the Holy Spirit filled all who were present in the room both men and women. And they began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Coupling this to the promise made in Joel it came to pass just as he said it would, Both men and women were filled with the Holy Spirit and it was at this time only on the House of Judah of the Hebrews. Confirming that it was given to the people of God, chosen out from the foundation of the earth.

Verse 6: When this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because the every man heard them speak in his own language.

Verse 7: Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? And there were men out 18 other languages who heard them speaking in their own tongue. Some of those hearing must have been from the house of Israel. Jesus had dispatched those of the house of Judah, (his learners) to go to the ethnee and teach them all things that I have taught you, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The ethnee being the righteous gentiles, the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Peter’s sermon is long so we pick it up for the purposes of this lesson in verse 36: Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God made the same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and the One Anointed. It was the house of Israel that was the cause of Jesus being crucified, but it was the gentiles who slaughtered him by hanging him on the stake.

Verse 38-39 Then Peter said unto them, (the house of Israel) change your mind and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus, the one Anointed being pardoned for being without the covenants and the promises, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For this promise is to you (the house of Israel) and to your children, and to all that are far off.

Notice that I have added the house of Israel in parentheses to indicate that from verse 36 he was speaking to those of the House of Israel. In this same verse, I corrected four other words and inserted the correct meaning from the Greek (indicated in blue text).

Now going to Verse 41: there were added unto them about 3000 souls.

Here is what you will hear from those in the church. “And were added unto the church about 3000 souls”. If the church knew what they were saying it would sound something like this, “And were added unto the ekkleesias about 3000 souls.” Here now is the translation of the last statement, “And were added unto the ones being invited out 3000 souls.” In effect, it is like saying, that to the invitation was added 3000 souls.

As you can now see that the promise of the Holy Spirit to the whole house of Israel was completed during the day of the Pentecost, when the whole house of Israel received the promise and they did not have to do anything to qualify except to be of the race of Hebrews. They did not have the full promise for the writer of a later book says that it is only the down payment of the full thing which is to come later when the whole house of Israel receives the new covenant and no one will be teaching for all will know the Lord from the youngest to the old.

There is much abuse when using the words Holy Spirit by naming churches and programs. It is also promised to all those that come to the church to be born again. It is promised, that when you repent and confess that you are filled with the Holy Spirit and become like God knowing good and evil. From our lesson we learned that it is only to the whole house of Israel, those Hebrews that, were selected before the foundation of the earth, all else are rejected as being the rejected Gentiles of this world. The church cannot change the promise to the House of Israel to whomsoever will may came and receive.

For more details on the stuggle of the ethnee against the ethnoon and the conflict of having the heathen rejected gentile church of the Lord Jesus Christ which is diabolically opposed to the House of Israel.
